"Command, this is Vasquez. We've reached the galactic barrier."

"Copy, Odyssey. What do you see?"

"Nothing. And everything."

Kaelen appeared beside her. "Beyond this barrier lies the void-the space between galaxies. The First Ones never crossed it."

"Then we will."

The Odyssey pushed through the barrier, its hull straining. The void was empty, silent, cold.

But the sensors picked up a signal-faint, rhythmic, artificial.

"Take us closer."

The source was a structure-a massive ring, pulsing with blue light.

"It's a gate," Kaelen said. "But where does it lead?"

"We need to find out."

The Odyssey slipped through the gate, emerging in a galaxy of swirling colors. The stars were young, the planets newly formed.

"This is a nursery," the Builder said. "A place where galaxies are born."

Elena looked at the new stars, at the future they represented.

"We are witnessing creation," she said.

"Yes," Kaelen replied. "And we are part of it."

The Odyssey returned through the gate, carrying the memory of new worlds.

The universe was vast.

And full of wonders.
